Three Reasons Concrete Lifting is Better than a New Concrete Slab

Concrete Lifting

The concrete lifting procedure provides a proven method for repairing a damaged or settled slab, for far less money than pouring new concrete.

Homeowners with a cracked, uneven or sunken concrete slab have two repair options. They can tear out the damaged slab and replace it, or correct the problem with concrete lifting. Also known as slabjacking or leveling, the lifting process returns the slab to an even and stable position.

Concrete lifting is the preferred method of repairing any damaged concrete surface, including driveways, steps, patios, sidewalks and garage floors. Let’s look at some of the reasons why slabjacking is better than pouring a new slab.

Reason No. 1: Concrete Lifting is Less Expensive

Homeowners typically pay between $500 and $1,200 for slabjacking, depending upon the size and nature of the job. Of course, if yours is a larger job or if your damaged slab is in an area that is difficult to access, you can expect to pay a bit more for slabjacking.

If you demolish and remove the old slab and have a new one poured, your bill will be significantly higher.

In many cases, concrete slab replacement costs two or three times more than slabjacking. And, since replacing the slab doesn’t stabilize the soil foundation the way slabjacking does, you may find yourself faced with a cracked or unsettled slab again in the future.

Reason No. 2: Concrete Lifting Repairs Are Nearly Invisible

The slabjacking process involves drilling several small holes in the damaged slab. After the lifting material is pumped through the holes, they are sealed off and caulked. This leaves very little visual evidence of the repair.

A new slab will look perfect after it is poured. But, how will it compare to the surrounding concrete? Homeowners often find that a new slab doesn’t match the other concrete around their home in texture or in color. This may not matter much for some repairs, but if you’re repairing a single sidewalk or patio section, for example, the mismatch will be
quite noticeable.

Reason No. 3: Concrete Lifting is a Fast and Easy Solution

Removing a slab and replacing it with a new one creates a lot of noise, dust and dirt. Slabjacking, however, is a much cleaner process that leaves no waste behind.

Slabjacking is faster and more convenient than replacement too, with most projects taking just an hour or two. After the work is completed, the area is ready for use. You will need to wait a few hours before putting heavy weight on the slab, but you won’t need to wait days like you would with a newly poured slab.

Slabjacking can repair almost any type of damaged concrete, quickly and affordably.
