FAQ

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often about concrete lifting utah homeowners ask. If you don't see what you're looking for, give us a call at (435) 850-6363 or request a free estimate and we'll talk you through it.

How much does concrete lifting cost in Utah?
Most residential jobs run between $800 and $4,000 depending on how much concrete needs to be lifted and how far it has settled. Concrete lifting typically costs about half the price of full tear-out and replacement, and the job is done in hours instead of days. Every estimate is free and on-site, so we can give you a real number after seeing the work — not a phone guess.
How long does a concrete lifting job take?
Most residential jobs take 2 to 4 hours from start to finish. We bring in everything we need, drill dime-sized holes, lift the slab, patch the holes, and clean up. Larger commercial jobs may take a full day, but residential driveways, patios, and sidewalks are almost always same-day.
How soon can I drive on it after the lift?
With polyurethane foam, you can walk on the concrete immediately and drive on it within 30–45 minutes. If we use cementitious grout (mudjacking), we recommend waiting 4 hours before walking and longer before driving, depending on how much lifting was needed.
What can be lifted, and what can't?
We can lift driveways, sidewalks, patios, garage floors, pool decks, porches, steps, and walkways. The slab itself needs to be structurally sound — meaning no major crumbling or large missing sections. Hairline cracks are fine and very common; we can lift right through those. If a slab is so badly broken that it's already in pieces, full replacement is usually the right call, and we'll tell you that upfront rather than try to lift something we shouldn't.
Is concrete lifting better than replacing the concrete?
In most cases, yes. Lifting is faster, cheaper (usually half the cost of replacement), and far less disruptive. There's no demolition, no debris removal, no waiting days for new concrete to cure, and no damage to your landscaping. As long as the existing slab is structurally sound, lifting is almost always the better choice. If your slab is past saving, we'll be honest with you.
What's the difference between polyurethane foam and mudjacking?
Both methods lift sunken concrete by injecting material underneath the slab. Polyurethane foam is lightweight, waterproof, expands quickly, and cures in 30–45 minutes. Mudjacking uses a heavier cement-based slurry that takes longer to cure (4+ hours) and can put more weight on already-weak soil. We use both methods at Lift Right Concrete and recommend whichever one actually fits your job — polyurethane for most residential jobs where speed matters, mudjacking for large commercial slabs where cost-per-square-foot matters more than cure time.
When do I need helical piers vs concrete lifting?
These are two different services that solve different problems. Concrete lifting raises sunken slabs — driveways, patios, garage floors, walkways, sidewalks — by injecting material underneath. The slab itself is fine; it just needs to be lifted back to level. Helical piers solve a deeper problem: a settled or unstable foundation. Long steel piers are screwed deep into stable soil layers below the home, then attached to the foundation footing to support the structure. If your house has cracks in the drywall, doors that won't close properly, or visible foundation movement, you likely need piers. If your concrete around the house has settled but the house itself is fine, you need lifting. Sometimes both are needed. Learn more about foundation repair with helical piers.
How do I know if I need foundation waterproofing?
Common signs are wet spots, stains, or chalky white mineral deposits (efflorescence) on basement walls; water pooling on the basement floor after heavy rain or snowmelt; musty smells or mold growth near foundation walls; visible cracks in foundation walls of any kind; or a sump pump that runs constantly or far more often than it used to. If you see any of these signs, water is already getting in. The longer you wait, the more damage it does to drywall, framing, flooring, and stored belongings. Catching it early is dramatically cheaper than waiting for visible damage. Learn more about foundation waterproofing.
How long does foundation waterproofing last?
Properly installed polyurethane systems typically last 10 or more years and often the lifetime of the home. Polyurethane crack injection cures into a flexible seal that moves with the foundation as it settles, so it doesn't crack out the way rigid epoxy can. Curtain wall grouting and exterior closed-cell foam membranes are similarly durable. The honest caveat: if the underlying water source isn't addressed (poor drainage, clogged gutters, grading issues), water will eventually find a new path. We diagnose root causes, not just symptoms, so you don't pay for the same fix twice.
What's the difference between crack sealing and crack injection?
They sound similar but solve different problems. Crack sealing is a surface treatment — polyurethane sealant filled into visible cracks in driveways, patios, garage floors, and other flat slabs to prevent water from entering, stop further damage, and protect the slab from freeze-thaw expansion. Crack injection is a deep treatment — pressurized polyurethane resin injected through ports drilled into a foundation wall to fill the entire thickness of the crack and create a watertight seal through the wall. Sealing protects flatwork from above; injection waterproofs foundation walls all the way through. Different problems, different fixes. We do both.
